Losing a beloved pet

Dear Thursday,

At exactly 11:30 pm today our beloved family cat, Lulu went to sleep forever. He will be greatly missed. And while I try to tell myself he will be in a better place and that he’ll feel no more pain, it’s just been really difficult to let him go. My kitty was the most lovable, affectionate little bugger around. He may not have been the brightest cat on the block and probably a little bit on the klutzy side (he’s run into the glass sliding door several times and fallen out a couple of trees) but he loved my family unconditionally. While we’ve had a few days to digest the bad news and learn to cope with his loss, it has not been very easy for my family, particularly for my mom. Last night she cradled him in her arms, stroking his head as if he was her baby and I think deep down inside, she felt like she was losing her own child. My cat Lulu was not just a pet and I think most pet owners understand that their lovable furry friend becomes more like a member of the family rather than just a pet. The grief I feel over losing him is unexplainable. I know that I want to cry. I can feel my eyes get misty and my nose swell up as I type this. It’s not easy to comprehend the intensity of losing a love one any more than I can help writing these words as a form of closure, as a form of understanding what is, in fact, incomprehensible…
I just really miss my cat…

The wedding bug

Since a good friend of mine asked me to assist in planning her wedding (florals/cake). I have been spending my freetime scouring the Internet for beautiful things, walking the streets of Providence waiting to be inspired, roaming the aisles of my favorite gift shops and visiting the florists for ideas. On any given day, you might find me at my desk, hovering over my computer creating inspiration boards and color palettes, constantly getting sidetracked by all of the beautiful sites I’ve found along the way. I am in love with the whole planning process of a wedding, everything from the cake right down to the details on the invites. Maybe a second career is in the near future. :-)

Tide and Die

I shaved a dying man the other day. He had been in a coma for sometime but the reality of him dying didn’t really sink in until I started shaving him. Maybe the intimate experience of shaving another person really brings you a little closer to them. While I was shaving him, I was half listening to the TV. A Tide commercial came on saying, how few things in our lives are more tragic than watching a great piece of clothes fade in the wash.

I looked at the face in front of me. This was the face of a man who will never open his eyes and see the world again. This was the face of a man who has lived a life, who has people that he loves and who loves him. The face I am shaving so he looks more like himself when his family comes back to take him off life support. I looked into his face and thought "WTF is wrong with society when a statement of tragedy is used in a detergent commercial to relate to the wear and tear of clothes…and most people don't even bat an eyelash?" It was a perfectly typical sounding commercial, and that was the problem I had with it.

Huy…riding the crimson wave makes me so damm emo.

Spring: Pretty in Pink

I stumbled upon these amazing handmade items featured on Rare Bird Finds, a unique resource site dedicated to finding hidden gems and nifty knick knacks. Most of the items found on the site are artsy pieces, handmade or one of kind. These dainty fashion accents are really girlie but they are perfect for the casual chic, who is looking to add some spice to her wardrobe. A stylish emerald peacock head band with silk orchids add a lovely feminine touch and the vibrant colors of the Japanese print clutch and granny style bag sing spring fling. I absolutely heart the chiffon flower pony tail wrap. I might just get one in every color of the rainbow (to match with my crazy collection of colored socks). I can totally rock em with the Nomad Umbrella rain boots I wanted for my birthday. All these fun prints and bright colors will surely chase away the gray dullness left behind by winter.

oOh la la~

Boudoir Photography can be described as sensual and sexy. Often times these photos reveal an intimate portrait of a woman, capturing her beauty in settings that are romantic and dreamy. The pictures are sexually provocative yet very tasteful. They are total glam shots and not to be confused with the raunchy spreads in a Maxim magazine. Nowadays it’s all the rage for brides to give Boudoir photos to their fiancĂ© as a pre-wedding gift. But my reasons to have them done are more for me than for him. As my 24th birthday approaches, I decided to have them taken as a celebration of my womanhood and youth. I know this sounds rather vain and narcissistic but I rarely take photos of myself, much less any professional glamour shots. Eons from now, I’ll be able to look back on these boudoir photos and appreciate what I had before gravity caught up with me :-). I came across Rachel Hardiashar from Merge Weddings and immediately fell in love with her work. She turns Boudoir photos into fine art photography. I admire her artistic vision and unique style in taking pictures. I’m looking forward to booking a private session with her in the near future.
