9/11

I've visited NYC on many occasions but I have never taken a picture of the Empire State building or the Statue of Liberty. I just always assumed they would forever be in the New York City skyline. Same with the Flatiron building and the World Trade Center. Of course I never imagined that a terrorist attack would take down the twin towers. Nobody did.
I don't have anything purposely planned to post for today's 8th Anniversary. No poems, graphics or song passages. Nothing of the sort. This isn't because I've forgotten or that I don't care anymore, because that isn't true. It is because life, particularly as an American, was forever altered that day. It may not be with flags or eagles and constant images of the day but with the choices and events of our lives. The new rules, the new laws, the endless debates and the wars... Our daily lives and concerns, our choices, our actions. Our thoughts. Our mentalities. Everything for now on has a little shadow of 9/11 written on it. That is a reminder we will live with everyday as Americans.

Between Classes

I got 20 mins...

I wish I was at home playing Spanish on Rosetta Stone or even cleaning up the house, packing away our things for the move. Yes, we are moving again. Another place but the same city scape, only in a more residential part of town. We will have more space including a room for writing, reading, singing and dancing. I'm happy to be moving but I will definitely miss our old place, so much character built into these walls. My favorite has always been the built in book shelf, his and her closets and the ceramic tile painting of an exotic bare breast woman. She always greets me in the morning when I wash my face. I want to take her with us but that means I will have to take apart the wall and the FI will not have that. What I won't miss is the noisy hustle and bustle of city life and our annoying neighbor and his equally annoying and fugly dog, no-name mutt. Moving though is quite stressful. I've been packing away our non-essentials and realize just how much stuff we have and I don't even think we have a great deal of stuff. It will be fun lugging up all the wonderful pieces of our life and reassembling the puzzle all over again. Another opportunity to decorate!
I've been so busy with school this past week I've neglected the household chores and myself. No time for eye brow threading or a facial this week. Although my trip to the orthodontist was semi successful. Earlier I scoured the internet for a particular beauty product that seems to be sold out everywhere. I hate cosmetic companies. They get you addicted to the perfect nail polish or facial creme and than 6 months later decide to discontinue it. So now you have to buy your favorite color or scent in bulk like you are storing up for the Apocolypse. I do need to stop shopping as I already spent quite a bit of moolah this week on everything from school books to purchasing a lovely French Provencial desk from Craigslist. It does match our bedroom set and I just fancy old things that my heart was set on it before I even saw it. The purchase was more of a steal than a deal for $40. I do need to refocus funds on more important things. Like school, bills and saving for a nice trip. Speaking of trips, we are going to Maine for the weekend to celebrate the 100 days since my grandfather's passing. I hope to see family and old friends while I am there.

Usted es estúpido

I met some fine folks from PC today who have the combined IQ of -3. When I said I was born in Thailand, one of them busted out with, "Where in China is that?" only she tried to sound so intelligent while she said it. Another one asked if it was true that the Chinese eat cats and dogs. I said, " sure, and we all ride around in rickshaws too". How the hell did these people even graduate from high school? Seriously...
I seem to attract these types of people. I really, really try hard to go out of my way to avoid making new contacts with strangers in class. I know, I'm such a snob but this is what I get for making small talk...

It's hot in herrre

The hot air poured in through the bedroom windows this morning bringing in a ferocious burst of sunlight along with it. The bright rays spreading over me like hot melted butter made it quite difficult to stay asleep. I took a quick shower before work but I know it won't be my last for today. I used to complain about the rainy weather but now the massive heat wave is in full force that a little rain can't hurt. At the salon, the AC unit is broken so I am armed heavily with fans but the air is still hot and thick. I swear I'm going to drown in this humidity. My eyes are slowly beginning to water, glistening over the drops caused by heat exhaustion. Soon a river of drool will fall from my lips before settling on the curve of my neck. I can feel my strength slipping from the ligaments as my head bobs for sweet apples of slumber that precipitate through the air. Suddenly my will be lost as my body struggles to regain control, finally saving myself from falling into a comatose state. I need A/C please!!!

Bobble Head Babble

It's in the wee hours of the morning and I am missing someone. This being apart stuff gets tough although I know the distance is no longer a great obstacle for us, I still can't quite get used to being alone at night. I am sorta looking forward to the school year because my time away will be much shorter and so will the commute.

As the news of my engagement quickly spreads at work, I often get questions like, "How did he propose?" and "When is the date?", but one question in particular puts a smile on my face. "Why did you say yes?". He did ask me at some point in the jewelry store to marry him but I was too giddy to properly respond although I did say yes. Mind you, I was romancing the stone and was sooo excited that I'm sure my incoherent musings to myself was a sure sign of insanity to onlookers. Love struck? Yes. Stone Struck? Definitely.

But I digress, distracted once again by the bobble on my finger. He is generous...and I am so lucky to have found someone who loves me for me. His presence calms me like no one else, he brings me peace when all around me is chaos, he makes my world seem right with his soothing voice and gentle gestures. In his own special way, he tempers my impetuosity and quells my ire. He is my warm blanket on a cold night, umbrella on a rainy day and the cheese to macaroni. I could go on and on with an endless list of cheesy sappy analogies but in all seriousness I never felt more right about anything in my life. That definite, 110% feeling is so real it is unreal to me.

I suppose that's why I wanted to get married. It's hard to explain, but it was like all of a sudden, the part of me that has been missing my whole life is there, and I feel like I'm whole again. That's how I feel when I think about our life together... and I wouldn't want it any other way.
